cheer
At the end of every year, Mrs. Williams honored her kindergarten class in front of their parents by picking one word she felt best described them. Ruth’s word for my daughter came as no surprise to me, and though it wouldn’t have been my first thought, it definitely would have been perhaps my second or third. My daughter, Mrs. Williams recognized, was “encouraging.” As her mother, I, of course knew this. I had watched her comfort and coach and coax and cheer every unsuspecting child who crossed her path from the time she was big enough to have other people smaller than she. And while...

I was reminded this weekend of the night, almost twenty years ago now, after my hubby (at that time the boyfriend-soon-to-be-fiance) and I put our wedding date on the church calendar. He had come home with me to meet with my pastor, then gone back to his home town for some commitment I can’t recall, planning to return the next evening to spend part of the holiday with me and my family. I woke up, the morning after we’d put December 19th, 1992 in ink on the calendar, in a complete, full-out panic. What have we done? I asked myself, over and over. What were we...

Welcome to loriekaufmanrees.com! I’m so glad you’re here! (Because now that you’re here, I can finally go to sleep!) I’ve switched my blog over from blogger to wordpress for a number of reasons. But don’t worry Mom, all the content (and your PICTURES) are still here. I wanted to customize my blog in a way that blogger could not accommodate. I wanted to have more of a website feel, without having to create one myself. I wanted to be able to easily grow this platform into a customized site as it grew. And so, for this reasons and several others, I...

My Bub, winning her third straight title as Beam State Champion. Words cannot express how proud I am of the things my daughter has accomplished in the last three years, the overwhelming majority of which don’t come with a title or a medal. We made the tough decision tonight to pull Bub from the team early. We’d planned already for this to be her last season. Competing interests have become a strain. The cost has become a strain. The schedule and transportation have become a strain. But we hadn’t planned for this. A back injury one week after winter States has not healed....

Forgive me, but I’m going to be an obnoxious parent for a moment. Particularly given that Bub’s last meet did not go so well… 36.525 (Finally–the necessary 36!) First place vault First place beam Fourth place floor SECOND PLACE ALL-AROUND There were no tears this meet. THANK YOU JESUS. Which was a particularly good thing, given she had four friends from school there and seven family members! She and her buds claimed the podium for all-around. Above you have first, second, and third! Thank you for your patience. We now resume normal programming. Oh wait, this IS...
