Living Like You’re Loved
The majority of women who sit in a counselor’s office have believed things that aren’t true about God. They know in their minds what the Word says is true, but they don’t always experience it as real in their lives. This incongruity between what is “true” and what is “real” is at the heart of much of their struggle.
Healing takes place through the experience of God’s love, best expressed through the miraculous grace of the Cross. Join Lorie as she leads women to:
- Interact with The God of the Universe on a life-changing, personal level.
- Confront the twisted and deceptive thoughts and beliefs that bind them.
- Break free from destructive, life-long patterns of living and relating.
- Experience God’s love, grace, goodness, and power as REAL in their lives.
- Respond with abandon as Jesus invites them to live ABUNDANTLY in Him.
Becoming a (Biblically) Better Me
Tired of the same ol’ self-help shtick that delivers only surfaces changes in our behavior and barely makes a dent in our attitude? Desiring something deeper than the encouragement to be more productive, proficient, proactive, or positive? Desperate for lasting change, yet overwhelmed by the abundance of advice available?
We naturally desire to become “better,” but this desire must ultimately be rooted in Biblical wisdom, not worldly platitudes. Join Lorie as she lays out a Biblical plan for Becoming a Better Me:
- Begin (where you are)
- Embrace (God’s love and grace)
- Trust (in God’s goodness and sovereignty)
- Turn (from that which is unhealthy)
- Enjoy (the season of life you’re in)
- Rest (in God’s presence)
Getting the Right Things Right: Finally Forming Healthy Relationships With God, Food, Body and Self
For many women, the idea of health seems, at times, elusive and impossible to achieve. As someone who has struggled her whole life with weight issues, IBS, chronic pain, and depression/anxiety, Lorie understands it is sometimes hard to determine what “healthy” feels like at any given time.
We must understand the concept of health from a physical, emotional, and spiritual perspective if we are ever to experience a truly healthy mind, heart, body, and spirit. Lorie shares, both from personal insight and Biblical wisdom, how participants can finally:
- Get their heart right (Learning to Rest)
- Get their hunger right (Learning What Satisfies)
- Get their choices right (Learning to Live by the Spirit)
- Get their thinking right (Learning to Not Obsess)
- Get their spirit right (Learning to Identify Sinful Patterns)
- Get their habits right (Learning the Spiritual Discipline of Health)
(This workshop can be extended with individual and group exercises and additional content to become a weekend conference with three sessions.)
Freedom from Strongholds
Without even realizing it, we can suddenly find we’ve built an immense wall of self-protection around our hearts that the Spirit cannot penetrate. When we try to come out from behind our fortress, we suddenly find we’re locked in the watchtower, unable to get free. Lorie explores, in this session, how these very things we build and turn to for protection can become the very things that hold us captive and bind us. Using the metaphor of a medieval fortress as our “strong tower,” Lorie takes an in-depth look at:
- How the term “stronghold” is used in scripture.
- Which common strongholds Christians most often experience.
- Where strongholds can originate.
- How God responds to the strongholds we’ve created.
- How we can finally break free from the strongholds that hold us captive.
Fear Not: How to Truly be Anxious for Nothing
“Fear not” is the most often spoken command of the scriptures, yet many Christian women remain in bondage to fear most of their lives. Lorie understands the grip anxiety, worry, and fear can have on a woman’s heart, and she understands the struggle to shake something that so deeply clings to not only our hearts and our minds but our bodies as well.
As she shares from her own journey, Lorie helps women explore the roots of fear and anxiety and discover what the Psalms (as well as the rest of the Word) have to teach us about making this command a reality in our lives. Participants will come away understanding:
- What fear really is and where fear is rooted.
- How and why Satan uses fear to keep us in bondage.
- How to let God be in control and trust in his goodness.
- What the Bible has to say about overcoming fear and living in peace.
A Life of Balance: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit
In a society obsessed with striving for achievement, how do we find a place of balance out of which to live our lives? And how do we keep our search for balance from becoming yet another area in which we are striving in our own power to make something happen?
The Word is clear the works of the flesh bear fruit, as does the activity of the Holy Spirit in our lives. How do we distinguish between the two, and how do we make sure we’re cultivating the correct crop? Lorie leads the way in this session as she helps women:
- Identify the fruit of the flesh in our thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors.
- Live by the Spirit, not by the “law,” to cultivate good fruit.
- Prepare our hearts to be fertile soil to receive the seeds of the Spirit.
- Keep our garden weeded and protected to guard our seedlings.
- Cultivate fruit in such a way that our harvest multiplies exponentially.
- Experience the balance that comes from “living in step with the Spirit.”
The Practical Guide to “Giving It Over to God”
The phrases we use, as Christians, don’t always make sense, even to those familiar to our faith. Such is the case with the oft-given admonition to “Give it over to God.” What does this mean, exactly? And how, precisely, does one “give over” something they cannot put their hands on to a God they cannot see or hear?
Lorie thoughtfully explores the answers to these questions as she walks women through:
- Identifying our tendency to carry things we ought not to carry.
- Repenting of our stubborn determination to do it on our own.
- Recognizing the examples set before us in scripture.
- Understanding the four daily attitudes we must cultivate.
- Developing the four biblical steps to “giving it over to God.”
When God Doesn’t Make Sense: Faith Foundations
There are times in life when it seems we have more questions than answers. We turn to God in those times, only to find God appears silent. Tumultuous storm clouds begin rolling in, and we find ourselves clinging to an umbrella of faith in the face of a hurricane of emotion.
We will get pummeled by the storms of life if we do not have an enduring foundation of faith. In this session, Lorie helps women prepare for stormy weather by:
- Uncovering the deepest fears that lurk beneath our attempts at faith.
- Blowing the whistle on our repeated attempts to “understand” God.
- Debunking the myth that suffering always has a discernable purpose.
- Examining what scripture says about how and why we should trust a God we can’t understand.
- Positioning listeners to experience the truth of the Word as “real” in their hearts.
(This workshop can be combined with “Living Like You’re Loved for a two or three session conference on “Foundational Faith.”)
A Control Freak Tackles Submission
There are few topics that create as much controversy within a marriage as the topic of submission. Yet at the heart of this command is an invitation to be Jesus to the very one we should love best: our spouse. In this straightforward session for couples, Lorie takes an in-depth look at what prevents couples from living out the New Testament call to mutual submission. Join Lorie as she boldly helps couples:
- Explore the “baggage” they carry regarding the term “submission.”
- Gain an appreciation for the cultural context within which the New Testament calls to submission are set.
- Take an honest look at the heart of the problem: their own hearts.
- Understand the true heart of the solution: having God’s heart for their spouse.
I Don’t Deserve This (And Other Myths of Marriage)
Without realizing it, we can find ourselves, over time, buying into Satan’s sneaky lies—about marriage, about ourselves, about God, about our spouses. Our belief in these lies can lead to disease, discontent, and disappointment in our marriages if we are not careful. Lorie identifies eight key lies she sees couples buy into, and assists couples find truth as they:
- Understand where these lies, both subtle and direct, often originate.
- Identify the lies they’ve personally bought into within their marriage.
- Tackle these lies head on with truth.
- Repent and renounce the lies that have impacted their marriage.
(This workshop can be combined with A Control Freak Tackles Submission for a three or four session marriage conference)

Here’s what ministry leaders and listeners have to say about Lorie’s teaching:
Lorie is an exceptional communicator with uncommon insight into how people work. She is also an incredibly effective counselor that I have every confidence recommending to people.
- Pastor of Joshua House, the 1000+ member young adult congregation of Vineyard Church of Columbus
Lorie is an engaging and insightful speaker who is most in her element when speaking to women on issues surrounding health and weight loss. She speaks from the place of having confronted these issues in her own life, readily acknowledging that some continue to be a challenge, which brings a unique authenticity and instant bond with her audience. Every time I have heard Lorie speak she approaches her talk with expectancy for what the Lord would have her communicate to that specific group and doesn’t shy away from going “off script” for a moment if she feels it would prove helpful. She welcomes feedback and questions from the audience which results in her sharing even more personal stories of her journey, affirming that she very much is “just one of us” and not someone who has “arrived.” She is one of the most honest and relatable speakers I know, never promising that the journey is easy but always demonstrating that it’s worth it.
- Manager of Joshua House’s annual Breathe Festival
Our single mother’s came to Single Mom’s Connection hungry—and they went away full. Lorie’s teaching was practical, meaningful, personal, and biblical—it was exactly what they needed. She connected with the women right off the bat with her humor and personal stories, and provided a refreshing ending to our very long week.
- Women’s Ministry Coordinator, Vineyard Church of Columbus
